The U.S. Constitution was not a hastily thrown together document with transient ideas crudely lumped in. The Framers took time to study principles of governance and the historical utility of these types and styles of government before crafting the Constitution. They had worked in their own States in different structures of government and had first-hand knowledge of the successes and failures of the various governments here.
They built around tried-and-true principles to create a structure of government that was blended and unique in this world. They built a foundation that could last the test of time, if the people would hold their government to these principles.
The cornerstone principle which our government was structured around is that every human being has certain unalienable rights endowed upon them by the Creator. The principles built on this foundation are that the purpose of government is to secure these rights and that the government cannot violate these rights without due process of law.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
These bedrock principles apply at every level of government and to every action of government or government actor.
The structure of government built on this foundation was unique as well. The Framers established a separation of legislative, executive, and judicial powers that prevents a single individual or body from abusing individual rights.
We have seen this structure, and the protections provided by it, destroyed at national, state, and local levels through agencies that take on all three roles.
We need to remind everyone that the purpose of government is to secure our individual rights.
We must fight to return to the fundamental structures of separated powers, rule of law, and due process to secure those rights!
