Where is your Political Focus?

The Founding Fathers were not focused on getting limited, immediate concessions to the detriment of freedom in the long run. The Founders understood that they needed to make deliberate, strategic moves to secure liberty for generations to come.

“The fate of unborn millions will now depend, under God, on the courage and conduct of this army. We have, therefore, to resolve to conquer or die.”

George Washington

They also understood that it was not simply about winning a war but about securing God-given rights. They fought for those rights. They formed governments based on those rights. They educated their children to understand those rights.

“Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.”

John Adams

They committed themselves to keeping liberty and to keeping government limited and in check.

“Without liberty, law loses its nature and its name, and becomes oppression. Without law, liberty also loses its nature and its name, and becomes licentiousness.”

James Wilson

They understood that liberty must be secured every day so those in positions of power cannot take it.

“It will not be denied that power is of an encroaching nature and that it ought to be effectually restrained from passing the limits assigned to it.”

James Madison

And they understood the danger that lurked in the shadows waiting for us to forget it was there.

“I predict future happiness for Americans, if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

Thomas Jefferson
