History of the Constitution Party of Pennsylvania: The Constitutional Party (the forerunner to today’s Constitution Party of Pennsylvania [CPPA]) was formed in 1994. In that year candidates Peg Luksik and Jim Clymer ran for governor and lieutenant governor, respectively. Both Peg Luksik and Jim Clymer received over one-half million votes, or 14% of the votes cast in their elections. In 1995, the Constitutional Party became a state affiliate of the U.S. Taxpayer’s Party, and in 1999, after the national party changed its name to the Constitution Party, The Pennsylvania affiliate changed its name to the Constitution Party of Pennsylvania. During the 1998 gubernatorial race, Peg Luksik and Jim Clymer again ran for governor and lieutenant governor, respectively, and each receiving 12% of the votes cast. In 2004, Jim Clymer ran for U.S. Senate and received over 225,000 votes. Today, the CPPA is active in a number of counties and has several party members elected to county and local office.
