We appreciate the support you have given to the Constitution Party! We are interested to hear about why you have supported us. Was there a particular platform that earned your support? Was it for a specific candidate? Or was it simply for the hope we offer as an alternate to the Democratic and Republican Party?

As we grow in new States and win more offices, we want to be cognizant of those we represent. Our goal is to secure individual rights and bring back limited government. But we want to stay up to date on the most relevant issues in each State and the most important races to get candidates in.

As the Party of Integrity, we hope that we have earned your support and we will continue to fight to return to the freedoms we have lost.

The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act on 22 March 1765. The Act imposed a tax on legal and commercial paperwork as well as on newspapers and other distributed writings. It was intended to raise revenue for war debts by a tax that colonists could not avoid. The colonial legislatures were given no say in this tax, and offenders could be tried in courts of Admiralty, without rights to a jury or witnesses.

These taxes were imposed only on the British subjects in the North American colonies and not on other British subjects, which effectively treated the colonists as second class citizens. The American Colonies were not represented in Parliament, and they declared it to be unconstitutional for such taxes to be imposed on them without their consent or the consent of their representatives. “No taxation without representation” is a phrase we have all heard which reflects the battle they faced.

The treatment the Founders suffered, at the hands of a government they had no say in, became the major issue that drove the American Revolution. Even those who sought peace with England until the very end, had to acknowledge that returning to peace with King and Parliament would mean bowing down to any tax or restriction they might choose to put on the colonies.

Our right to self-govern has been abdicated by many current citizens who have become too lazy or too ignorant to do the hard work of keeping our public functionaries in line. When citizens abdicate government actors are only too willing to take control.

Political organizations do just that; they organize. They provide the structure to focus resources on accomplishing a given political purpose.

A political party can have a broad range of aspects that they are focused on; from single issue agendas, to running candidates for every office, to setting political policy.

By organizing support, both financial and volunteer efforts, and by pinpointing the goal, a political organization can increase the efficacy of the people’s efforts.

It is specifically because organizing is so powerful that organizations are formed and cooperation obtained. By organizing, an individual can leverage their limited resources into something formidable.

Organizing politically can be as simple as a grass-roots effort built around public pressure being placed on our public functionaries. Or it could be a more permanent fixture, such as a political party. In every case there are always logistics to work out.

The Constitution Party works to help individuals organize locally to accomplish political objectives that push government to secure individual rights.

We help individuals focus their goals and resources to be effective in their areas, organizing Constitution Party committees and running candidates.

It is imperative that members and nominated candidates representing the Constitution Party and its state affiliates recognize the importance of demonstrating good character in their own lives.

THE PRINCIPLES

John Adams, the 2nd President and signer of the Declaration of Independence, warned: 

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” 

He also counseled: 

“The people have a right, an indisputable, unalienable, indefeasible, divine right to that most dreaded and envied kind of knowledge–I mean of the character and conduct of their rulers.” 

THE PROBLEM

Over time, the limitations of federal government power imposed by the Constitution have been substantially eroded. Regionalization of governments, at any level, also results in the removal of decision-making powers from the people or public officials directly elected by the people.

THE SOLUTION

Our very Constitution when we condone immoral conduct by our elected and appointed leaders. Public respect and esteem toward public officials have fallen to a shameful level. The Constitution Party finds that a cause of this national state of disgrace is the deterioration of personal character among government leaders, exacerbated by the lack of public outcry against immoral conduct by public office holders. 

THE CONSTITUTION PARTY COMMITTMENT

Our party leaders and public officials must display exemplary qualities of honesty, integrity, reliability, moral uprightness, fidelity, prudence, temperance, justice, fortitude, self-restraint, courage, kindness, and compassion. If they cannot be trusted in private life, neither can they be trusted in public life.

The level of sacrifice you are willing to make to shows your level of commitment. People’s lives demonstrate what they believe in and the depth of that belief. In other words, talk is cheap.

The Founding Fathers committed “their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor” to the cause of Liberty. These were not idle words. The Founders literally put their lives at risk and spent their own money to achieve limited government and the greatest freedom for themselves and their families.

Who is in charge, you or the government?

What is a Citizen? In 1789, David Ramsay published A dissertation on the manner of acquiring the character and privileges of a citizen of the United States. In it he states that “Subject is derived from the latin words, sub and jacio, and means one who is under the power of another; but a citizen is an unit of a mass of free people, who, collectively, possess sovereignty.” Citizens are part owners in their government and the public functionaries work for them.

Public functionaries derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. The just power given to our public functionaries is to to secure these certain unalienable Rights…Life, Liberty and Private Property.

When government shifts from securing our individual rights to taking our individual rights, it becomes the very thing it was created to protect us from. What is worse, we are paying for it to violate our rights.

A Citizen takes personal responsibility for the public functionaries in the government which that Citizen owns! When public functionaries do wrong, they need corrected. When they are not sure what they should do, they may need advice. Above all, public functionaries need the accountability of having their boss (YOU) attending public meetings to check in on them.

Make sure you are getting to your municipal and school board meetings in your area. Get organized with others in your area so that you can keep up with what is going on by sharing the load with other Citizens.

Keeping up with your legislators is easier than you think. It is important to find out what they are working on and what bills they are considering so that you can better direct their efforts. If your representatives do not hear from you, they will do whatever they wish to do.

Let your representatives know when they are not doing something right or when they shouldn’t be doing something at all. Tell them you appreciate when they do follow the U.S. Constitution and your State Constitution. Let them know when you have expertise or insight to share with them.

Above all, keep in contact with them. Once they know that you are following what they are doing and sharing that information with others, your representatives may be more inclined to respond positively to your suggestions and take appropriate action.

Following are the Congressional and State Legislature sites you can use to track what your representatives are doing. There are also other sites which may require you to purchase subscriptions and or payments to make the process smoother and more efficient.

True leaders have a thirst for knowledge and understanding. Their ability to understand situations and people allows them to lead wisely. Knowledge leaves individuals unsatisfied with status quo and with average thinking and action. Understanding allows leaders to use the knowledge they have gained, effectively.

Thomas Jefferson, Letter to P. S. du Pont de Nemours, April 24, 1816:

“Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of the day.”

The Law – Frederick Bastiat:

“Fundamental knowledge can be used broadly by understanding concepts. Understanding the concepts that guide good government can allow us to make wise decisions on specific or technical matters that we are not well-versed in. Citizens can, and must, hold their public functionaries accountable for their actions, and advise them on what actions they should be taking.”

Benjamin Rush, Essay, 1786:

“It is favourable to liberty. Freedom can exist only in the society of knowledge. Without learning, men are incapable of knowing their rights, and where learning is confined to a few people, liberty can be neither equal nor universal.”

Each of us can determine to advance our knowledge and understanding by taking advantage of the many opportunities to read. In this day and age, even those who don’t care to read can listen to books in audio formats. Everyone can advance their understanding of interests they have through books, audios, videos, classes, and discussions.

American Patriots will always have an interest in our freedoms and the foundations that built it. With the many sources available, we hope that all will continue to learn.
