During the time between when a new person is elected and the old person leaves the position, there is a period where the old person can act without concern for what the action may mean for re-election. This outgoing official is known as a Lame Duck.

Very often we see them do bad things during that period that the general public would be opposed to. Because they are not concerned about getting re-elected (since the public already elected someone else), they do not feel the accountability from the public that they are normally faced with.

However, We the People can turn this around. We can put pressure on the public official to do what is right in spite of the political party pressure to do what is wrong. Occasionally, a public official simply lacked the courage to do what was right in the face of political pressure from parties or other politicians. The Lame duck period may be pointed out to them as a time to do what is right and get away with it.

The Lame Ducks always need to see We the People in audience at public meetings. Whether we provide accountability to those intending to do harm during this period, or whether we provide support for those intending to do what is right during this period, they always need us there to encourage good governance.

While the official results are not in on many races, we are seeing some exciting unofficial wins. In the Clarion-Limestone School District in Pennsylvania, it looks like two Constitution Party candidates to the school board have won their races. This would bring the total number of School Board CP members to 4 out of 9 in Clarion-Limestone giving the CP of Clarion County a strong influence in the education of their children and grandchildren.

We look forward to hearing about all the official wins that CP members have achieved this election cycle!

We are also excited to see the continued building of the CP at the local levels. CP local organizations and members do not have to win every race to make an impact in their area. These local races help build the party’s name recognition and let people know what we stand for. This in turn helps build the local party as people see what we have to offer.

Anyone can write to their representatives.

Anyone can, and should, be in contact with the public functionaries who represent you in government. It is important for everyone to write, email, call, or meet in person their representatives in government to admonish, encourage, or educate them. Ask them if they know what the purpose of government is. Make sure they understand that their role is to secure individual rights.

When you write, or talk, to your representatives, write one good thing they are doing and correct one bad thing, or educate them on one thing they should be doing. This balanced approach makes it easier for them to hear your constructive criticism.

If your public functionaries are doing a good job in the face of opposition, they need to hear that there are those who support them. They may also need your support by showing up at meetings on their side.

Our public functionaries need to hear from us! Even if you don’t do anything else, contact a government official, at some level, today.
